HFSP Secretary General Ernst-Ludwig Winnacker presented a talk at the inaugural conference of the University of Strasbourg Institute for Advanced Study (USIAS). This was a double challenge because of the topic “In search of new frontiers” but also because he gave his talk in fluent French. You can access the video of the talk here.

The Howard Hughes Medical Institute (HHMI) has announced that Erin O’Shea was elected as the organization’s new Vice President and Chief Scientific Officer. Erin was a 2005 HFSP Grant awardee and later served on the HFSP Review Committee for Research Grants. Together with her HFSP co-investigators she was studying functional and dynamic aspects of information processing in yeast regulatory networks by high-throughput experiments. 24 HFSP alumni have been awarded a Starting Grant from the European Research Council in the latest competition. The ERC Starting Grant has become a standard for innovative, bottom-up funding at the European level.
