1. HFSP Nakasone Award for Karl Deisseroth

The first HFSP Nakasone Award has been conferred upon Karl Deisseroth of Stanford University for his pioneering work in the application of microbial opsins as "optogenetic" tools in neurobiology.

2. Announcement of 2010 Fellowship, Grant and Career Development Awards

This year's HFSP awards have been made for 74 Long-Term Fellowships, 12 Cross-Disciplinary Fellowships, 16 Career Development Awards, 9 Young Investigator Grants and 25 Program Grants.

3. New increased stipends for HFSP Fellows

Important changes have been made to the stipend and allowances for Long-Term and Cross-Disciplinary Fellows.

4. HFSP Awardees and Alumni section

a. HFSP Alumni Network: The first meeting of HFSP alumni from Eastern Canada will take place in Montreal on 29 July 2010. We will shortly contact former awardees in that region with more information. HFSP would like to encourage you as current or former awardees to get together in your institution, city or region. Do you already have meetings with other HFSP awardees? If so, please let us know at news@hfsp.org.

b. Meet the HFSP: If you plan to attend “PLANT BIOLOGY 2010”, the joint meeting of the American Society of Plant Biologists and the Canadian Society of Plant Physiologists in Montreal this summer (July 31 to August 4, 2010), you are most welcome to join us at the HFSP booth in the exhibition area.
