10th Anniversary Ceremony and Symposium

The North American 10th Anniversary celebrations was held in Washington D.C. in December 1999. The focus of the North American event was on the achievements of young investigators and included both an awards ceremony at the White House and a one-day Symposium held in conjunction with the American Society for Cell Biology Annual Meeting.


OFFICIAL CEREMONY (December 10, 1999)

The official North American 10th Anniversary Ceremony was held at the Old Executive Office Building with the participation of Dr. Neal Lane, Science Advisor to President Clinton and Dr. Henry Friesen, Director of the Canadian Medical Research Council. The highlight of the ceremony was conferring the HFSP 10th Anniversary Awards on ten former Long-Term Fellows, one from each of the member countries, who were selected on the basis of their scientific accomplishments and continued commitment to international research collaboration. In addition, three North Americans who contributed to the establishment and success of the HFSP were also recognized.


10th ANNIVERSARY SYMPOSIUM (December 11, 1999)

The HFSP hosted a 10th Anniversary Symposium in connection with the American Society for Cell Biology Annual Meeting at the Washington Convention Center.

Presentations were made by the 10 fellows recognized at the Official Ceremony and two research grant awardees. Presentations covered a wide range of scientific topics reflecting the breadth of science supported by HFSP and emphasized the value of international collaboration. The symposium also included a session on practical information for young investigators who are considering establishing international collaborations.
