Michel Spiro, Chair of the Steering Committee and President of the International Union of Pure and Applied Physics, and Pavel Kabat, Secretary-General of HFSPO, met this week and signed the Memorandum of Understanding officially recognizing HFSO as a Founding Partner.

“The life sciences are at the heart of achieving the UN Sustainability Goals on many, many levels,” said Kabat on Wednesday. “As the global organization pioneering frontier life science research HFSPO is thrilled to be a Founding Partner in this worthy initiative and eager to make important contributions that advance the science of sustainability.”

The goal of the IYBSSD is to highlight the role of basic science in providing the essential knowledge that is needed to achieve the U.N. Sustainable Development Goals. HFSPO joins several other international science organizations and institutions in organizing a range of activities as part of IYBSSD.

HFSPO’s first contribution to the IYBSSD will be a Science Summit and two-day International Scientific Symposium entitled “Basic Life Science for Sustainability,”  which will be held 27-29 June 2023 at the French National Academy of Sciences in Paris. A call for abstracts and presentations for the symposium will be forthcoming soon.
