We would like to congratulate HFSP alumna Erin O’Shea of Harvard University who was named by the Howard Hughes Medical Institute (HHMI) as its sixth President, effective September 1, 2016. O’Shea currently serves as HHMI’s chief scientific officer, a position she has held since 2013. She will succeed Robert Tjian, HHMI’s President since 2009.
Erin was a 2005 HFSP grant awardee and later served on the HFSP Review Committee for Research Grants. Her outstanding research work on quantitative analysis of gene regulatory networks and her international experience make her the ideal candidate for this highly influential position.
Currently Erin is the Director of the Harvard Faculty of Arts and Sciences’ (FAS) Center for Systems Biology and the Paul C. Mangelsdorf Professor of Molecular and Cellular Biology and of Chemistry and Chemical Biology at Harvard University. The full press release of the HHMI is available here.
