HFSP has been on an official visit to Australia, one of its country members, for the last ten days. This mission aims to stretch relationships with Australian scientific institutions to engage international cooperation and participation in HFSP research programs.
Pavel Kabat, the HFSP Secretary General, had meetings with the National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC), the Australian Research Council, the Australian Academy of Science, the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation, the Global Carbon Project, as well as with several high representatives of Australian Government Department of Industry, Science and Resources (DISR), Department of Education, Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade and Department of Health and Aged Care.
This official visit was also an opportunity to gather the HFSP research community in Australia within a meeting with current HFSP Research Grants and Fellowships awardees, and former HFSP alumni.
"The existing partnership of NHMRC with HFSP for supporting frontier research in the life sciences builds on this mutual strategic trajectory and will continue to provide a solid foundation for the future", said Pavel Kabat, HFSP Secretary General, when presenting the Australian footprint in HFSP programs.
Research support for scientists at Australian institutions through HFSP programs goes back to the beginning of the Program in 1990. Since then, HFSP has maintained a high level of engagement with Australia's scientific community and research institutions.
Australia has been a member of HFSP for almost 20 years. The country integrated the HFSP board of members in 2004. Since then, more than 200 researchers have been awarded within the HFSP Research Grants and Fellowships programs.
