HFSPO Fosters Ties with European Diplomatic Missions in Japan

Earlier this month, representatives of the International Human Frontier Science Program Organization (HFSPO) held a series of high-level diplomatic meetings in Tokyo with ambassadors and senior officials from several HFSPO member countries.

During the visit, Pavel Kabat, HFSPO Secretary General, met with Jean-Eric Paquet, Ambassador of the European Union to Japan; Petra Sigmond, Ambassador of Germany to Japan; Roger Dubach, Ambassador of Switzerland to Japan; and Beatrice Le Fraper du Hellen, Ambassador of France to Japan, along with members of their respective teams.

For many of these ambassadors, it was their first opportunity to meet with HFSPO leadership. The discussions provided an occasion to introduce the mission and unique international framework of HFSP, highlighting its role in promoting frontier research in the life sciences through competitive fellowships and research grants.

Pavel Kabat outlined current priorities and upcoming milestones, including preparations for the Triennial Conference of HFSPO Members (TCHM), to be held next July in Geneva, Switzerland. He exchanged views with each delegation on opportunities for continued engagement and cooperation. The meetings reaffirmed the shared commitment of HFSPO member countries to supporting international collaboration and basic research at the frontiers of science.

These diplomatic exchanges form part of HFSPO’s ongoing efforts to maintain close dialogue with member countries and reinforce institutional partnerships that underpin the program’s global success.
